Introduction
The Caribbean Region
is located in the northern of Colombia.
This region has the
Caribbean Sea and many rivers.
People from this
region are friendly, very happy and smiling.
People from this
region are called “costeños”. People like dancing mapale, cumbia and regueton.
Food
In the Caribbean Region people also like to eat Fish Sancocho.
Its ingredients are: plantain, potatoes, yucca and fish. This dish is flavored with tomatoes, onions, carrots,
pepper and coriander.

CELEBRATIONS OF
THE CARIBBEAN REGION IN COLOMBIA
The main cities of the Caribbean region in Colombia are BARRANQUILLA, CARTAGENA DE INDIAS and
SANTA MARTA; and its sub regions, LA GUAJIRA, CESAR, PROVINCIA DE PADILLA,
MAGDALENA, MOSTES DE MIRA, SABANAS DE CORDOBA, SUCRE, VALLES ALUVIALES DE LOS
RÍOS SINU, ALTOS DE SAN JORGE, DEPRESIÓN MONPOSINA, REGIÓN DE LA MOJANA, GOLFO
DE URABA, SAN ANDRES, PROVIDENCIA AND SANTA CATALINA. In
this project we will discuss the most important festivities in the city of
BARRANQUILLA.
The Carnival of
Barranquilla is one of the best known carnival in Colombia and worldwide and it
was stated as oral heritage by UNESCO in 2003. The Carnival is a cultural event
in which all varieties are expressed cultural and folklore of the Caribbean
Coast and the most diverse local cultural events, folk music and dancing. It is
the most representative of the city that each year attracts a lot of visitors.

also held in the Caribbean region are:
The Vallenato
Legend Festival in Valledupar, declared Cultural Patrimony of the Nation in
2002. It is celebrated in Sincelejo on January 20th, it was declared national
cultural heritage in 2009.
Easter in Mompox, Bolivar, declared
Historical and Cultural Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1995 and the National Beauty
Pageant celebrated in Cartagena on November 11th.
